our work
The Hawai`i Appleseed Center for Law and Economic Justice advocates on behalf of low income individuals, families and communities striving to achieve self-sufficiency and success. We work towards removing system-wide barriers our clients often confront when seeking to access the resources, services and fair treatment that they need to realize self-achievement and economic security in Hawai'i. Our work includes such activities as advocating for access to educational opportunities, health care, social services, language services, reasonable accommodations for disabilities and protection from discrimination.
The Hawai`i Appleseed Center also provides advice and representation to disabled individuals who are trying to obtain SSDI or SSI benefits from the Social Security Administration or Veterans Disability benefits from the Veterans Administration. For more on each of our projects please explore more of our practice areas.
